Phonics and Early Reading

At Northwood Park Primary, Phonics plays an integral part in our teaching of reading. It teaches our children to become fluent readers from an early stage. To achieve this, we use the Little Wandle Letters and Sound Revised scheme in EYFS and KS1, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme, starting as soon as they begin their journey with us in Reception. This programme supports children to recognise all 44 sounds within the alphabetical code and ensures children master the skills they need to read and spell as they move through the school.
