Our Values

At Northwood Park we believe passionately in educating the whole child. Children only get one chance at their primary education and therefore it is crucial that we provide a rich, exciting, creative, broad and balanced curriculum including a range of opportunities and experiences for all..

 

We, at Northwood Park, are concerned with the whole education of the child. We hope, above all, that each child will develop fully to his or her potential by providing equality of opportunity throughout the curriculum.​

Our aim is to provide skills and knowledge for the children to understand the world around us, and for use in adult life. We aim to develop young people who have experienced some success in school and have positive attitudes about themselves, and children who are becoming socially aware and will become caring members of the society.

Curriculum

An overview of what our children learn

 

At Northwood Park Primary School we aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where children can learn and succeed.

All staff have high expectations of all our children across all areas of the curriculum. Learning at Northwood Park is a rewarding

and enjoyable experience which aims to develop children’s confidence, self-esteem and resilience.

 

Positive partnerships between staff, children, parents and governors ensure that teaching at Northwood Park Primary School is consistent across all areas of the curriculum, including our extra-curricular activities.  We aim for all children to make progress and fulfill their potential.​

 

The New National Curriculum

 

As from September 2015, all year groups at Northwood Park follow the new National Curriculum. Details of which can be found on the Direct Gov Website

 

At Northwood Park Primary School, we actively promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs, within our curriculum and also through our daily interactions with the children. Our school undertakes daily assemblies which uphold traditional values of empathy, respect and tolerance. These are also taught within formal PSHE and RE lessons.

 

Assessing without Levels


Last academic year, schools were required to make changes to the way in which pupils were assessed (previously, pupils were assessed using levels).

 

At Northwood Park, we have decided to adopt an approach that uses banding rather than levels. Pupils will be assessed against the new National Curriculum objectives and a decision will be made at certain points throughout the year as to whether they are beginning, developing or secure against year group expectations.

 

We will continue to report pupil attainment and progress through the normal means at Parent's Evenings, on written reports and in informal meetings throughout the year, but the terminology used to assess and report will differ, as explained above. 

 

There have also been changes made to the way pupils will be assessed as from September 2014.
